Oceans Alive Project
(KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa)

The WILDOCEANS Programme of the WILDTRUST (Wildlands Conservation Trust) is implementing the Oceans Alive project in South Africa, funded by the Blue Action Fund. This project aims to deliver increased protection in the marine biodiversity hotspot of iSimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage Site in South Africa, whilst acting to address social and economic challenges for the coastal communities living around the Park. Working directly with iSimangaliso Authority and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, the project aims to build additional conservation capacity and infrastructure, and to conduct ecosystem and species surveys monitoring, to support effective management of the Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). Through this project WILDOCEANS is also supporting iSimangaliso’s efforts to increase delivery of enduring and tangible socio-economic benefits for communities living adjacent to the park, through job creation, capacity building, enterprise development opportunities and social infrastructure development.

Wildlands seeks to appoint a Senoir Project Manager to be based in Durban, or the northern coast of KZN, South Africa.

Employment type: Fixed-term contract (3 years)

Start date: 1st October 2020

Remuneration: Competitive salary based on qualifications and experience

Required:
We are looking for a dynamic senior project manager, to join the WILDOCEANS team, preferably with a related Masters’ degree. Strong leadership and people management/relationship skills are essential, together with excellent administrative, financial, and reporting skills.
The successful candidate must be fluent in spoken and written English; isiZulu will also be beneficial.
The ideal candidate should have 7-10 years’ experience in community conservation project management.
The target group in terms of employment equity target for this post is an African Female.

Responsibilities:
The candidate will report to the Projects Director | WILDOCEANS, and responsibilities and duties will include:
Co-ordination and responsibility for delivery on the project work plan.
Working with project partners iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and other organisations to achieve project outcomes.
Management of stakeholder engagement to ensure healthy working relationships with all stakeholders.
Management of a core team of 10+ staff and annual internships of 90 individuals per year.
Financial management
All project reporting including narrative and financial reporting.
Conducting field visits and hosting donors in all nodes of the project (Kosi Bay to St Lucia)
Support to the Projects Director to ensure compliance with all Environmental and Social safeguards.
Working with the communications team to ensure effective and accurate public communications about the project.
Oversight and management of vehicles, vessels and scientific equipment used for the project.
