Senior Tunnelling Engineers will be full-time in Lesotho (Polihali/Katse Construction Sites) during construction of the Polihali Transfer Tunnel project.

Senior Tunnelling Engineers will be involved in day to day site supervision and construction monitoring activities from technical point of view and will be responsible to provide technical support to the MSKC site supervision team as and when required. They will initially assess the requirements of design adjustments, where applicable, during the construction and communicate with the MSKC design team and the MSKC specialists. Once the majority of detailed design works are complete, when required, the senior tunnelling engineers will be dealing with the modifications of relevant revisions of drawings in particular tunnels, shafts, access adits, tunnel portals construction related drawings as well as as-built drawings on site with the reviews of the MSKC specialists and MSKC Chief Design Engineer where required. The technical support team will also carry out design adjustments and design verifications during construction and perform any required back calculations/back analyses of underground structures in case of unforeseen ground conditions on site. TBM data analyses, penetration prediction model creation and updating, verification of PCTL, etc. will be carried out by the senior tunnelling engineers or under their supervision.

Senior Tunnelling Engineers will assist CRE, REs, contracts engineers in contractual matters i.e. NCR, VOs, Claims, extension of time, etc,, when required, during construction of the D&B and TBM waterway tunnels, tunnel portals, access adits, gate shafts, gate shaft gallery, lake tap and outlet and intake tunnels.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 
The senior tunnelling engineers  will be required to fulfil the following duties:

•    Assist with establishing software, hardware, systems related to tunnel construction and site supervision activities, records keeping and as-built documentation;
•    Assist CRE and REs with day-to-day technical issues;
•    Liaise with MSKC site supervision team (inspectors, geologists, quality control team, surveyors, CAD drafters, etc.) to resolve any potential technical problems related to tunnel design and construction; 
•    Liaise with MSKC Design team and MSKC Specialists in terms of technical and design issues;
•    Attend regular MSKC internal meetings when required by the CDR/REs; 
•    Attend regular technical meetings with the contractor when needed; 
•    Review monthly updated construction programme when required (Tilos); 
•    Review geological mapping, RESS, quality control reports, instrumentation and monitoring, as-built drawings and other technical documents as and when required;
•    Ensure the tunnel works are implemented in accordance with the contract technical specifications and drawings;
•    Compile and review final design reports; 
•    Review yearly construction completion reports; 
•    Carry out design verification and back analyses/calculations in terms of tunnel design, tunnel excavation and support, final lining, probing, etc. as and when required and suggest additional measures; 
•    Review geological and geotechnical reports; review lake tap ground investigation reports;
•    Establish and update TBM tunnel advance prediction model; 
•    Assist lake tap specialists in design review and construction supervision of lake tap;
•    Ensure Safety and Monitoring Management Plan as specified in Chapter 15 of the technical specification, is being implemented during the construction of tunnels;
•    Review MSKC weekly/monthly progress reports when required;
•    Review Contractor’s reports, method statements and other submissions as requested by REs; 
•    Visit and inspect tunnel works as and when required;
•    Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the CRE or/and REs.

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 
•    Should have sufficient relevant experience and knowledge in tunnel design and supervision and should have a valid driving license.
•    Familiar with advanced tunnel design/site supervision software
•    The candidates should be a Pr Eng with 13-16 years, or a Pr Tech with +18 years experience.
