Position: Senior Tourism Officer

Purpose of the Job
The Senior Tourism Officer is responsible for facilitating the growth, diversification, and sustainability of Lesotho’s tourism sector through enterprise development and investor aftercare services.
The incumbent supports tourism entrepreneurs and provides investor aftercare services for business retention and expansion (BRE), strengthens tourism value chains, and develops bankable tourism investment concepts that contribute to economic growth, employment creation, and community development.
The Officer shall also support policy implementation, stakeholder engagement, and strategic initiatives aimed at improving the competitiveness of Lesotho as a tourism investment destination.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Tourism Enterprise Development
- Facilitate enterprise capacity-building programmes, mentorship, and business development initiatives within the tourism private sector (tour guides, tour operators, events, hoteliers, crafters, etc.).
- Support the formalization and commercialization of community-based tourism enterprises.
- Monitor the performance and sustainability of supported tourism enterprises.
- Develop bankable concept notes which shall be considered for funding for sector development.
Investor Aftercare Services
- Provide continuous support to tourism investors after contract signing to ensure contract compliance for sustainable business growth.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing investors to encourage expansion and reinvestment (BRE).
- Identify operational challenges affecting investors and coordinate solutions with relevant government institutions.
- Facilitate business retention programmes and investment expansion initiatives.
- Conduct regular investor satisfaction evaluations and prepare aftercare reports.
Tourism Value Chain Development
- Identify tourism value chain gaps and opportunities.
- Facilitate linkages between tourism businesses and suppliers in agriculture, crafts, culture, hospitality, and other supporting sectors.
- Liaise with government ministries, development partners, financial institutions, and the private sector for inclusive sector growth and development.
Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience
Candidates must have either:
- A Postgraduate qualification in Economics, Business Administration, Project Management, or related fields, with at least two (2) years’ experience in enterprise development, investment promotion, project development, or business development.
OR
- Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Commerce, Project Management, or related fields, with at least five (5) years’ experience in enterprise development, investment promotion, project development, or business development.
Experience in the tourism sector will be an added advantage.
