SENIOR TECHNICAL OFFICER (MECHANICAL)

Job Summary
The incumbent reports directly to the Principal Technical Officer (Workshop) for maintenance and servicing of the Council’s fleet of vehicles and road construction equipment.
Main Duties
- Supervise the work activities of motor mechanics who work under him.
- Monitor and optimize the availability, reliability and efficiency of plant equipment.
- Generate and propose cost-effective mechanical solutions for plant equipment and system deficiencies to improve output.
- Produce weekly work progress reports to the Principal Technical Officer.
- Perform administrative tasks and conduct inspections and surveys to ensure compliance with safety, health and environmental requirements.
- Liaise with the Finance Department to check old and newly purchased spare parts.
- Conduct investigations to identify the underlying causes of abnormalities in the performance of vehicles and/or equipment.
- Direct and send vehicles and equipment out for external service or repairs.
Qualifications
National Diploma in Motor Mechanics/Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum of five years of apprentice post experience in general maintenance and repairs of vehicles.
