JOB TITLE: Senior Technical Officer

GRADE: E

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Principal Technical Officer, the Senior Technical Officer plays a vital role in supporting the technical operations that keep radio programming on air and running smoothly.


Key Responsibilities

Studio & Transmission Support

  • Assist in the setup, operation, and maintenance of broadcast equipment including microphones, mixers, transmitters, and digital audio workstations (DAWs)

Preventive Maintenance

  • Perform routine checks and scheduled maintenance on studio and transmission systems under the supervision of production engineers

Outside Broadcast (OB) Operations

  • Participate in the setup and technical execution of remote broadcasts, ensuring equipment is properly configured and functioning

Audio Editing & Continuity Tasks

  • Carry out basic editing and recording tasks using Digital Audio Workstation software
  • Support technical radio continuity by ensuring smooth transitions between segments

Equipment Care

  • Maintain and organize OB equipment, ensuring it remains in good working condition and ready for deployment

Emergency & Shift Work

  • Provide 24/7 technical support, including working shifts, weekends, and during emergencies such as severe weather or system outages

Skills & Competencies

Technical Proficiency

  • Familiarity with broadcast hardware and software, including audio consoles, transmitters, and editing tools

Problem-Solving

  • Ability to identify and resolve basic technical issues quickly, especially during live broadcasts

Team Collaboration

  • Work effectively with engineers, chief technical officers, principal technical officers, senior technical officers, technical officers, producers, and presenters to support seamless broadcast operations

Adaptability

  • Comfortable working in dynamic environments, including outdoor locations and during irregular hours

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Associate Degree in Electronics, Sound Engineering, Broadcast Technology, Computer Engineering, or other related fields
  • Prior experience in a broadcast or technical support role is preferred
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to technical emergencies
