What you’ll do
To ensure the optimal performance, reliability, and scalability of Vodacom’s data centre infrastructure through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
Key Accountabilities
Monitor and Maintain Power Supply: Oversee the uninterrupted power supply (UPS) systems, generators, rectifiers and backup power solutions to ensure a continuous power supply to critical systems and minimize downtime during power outages.
Temperature and Humidity Management: Ensure optimal temperature and humidity levels within the data centre by managing air conditioning units, and CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioning) systems to maintain an ideal environment for IT equipment.
Environmental Monitoring: Continuously monitor power and environmental parameters, including voltage levels, temperature, humidity, airflow, and cooling efficiency using specialized tools and systems.
Data Reporting and Analysis: Provide regular reports and insights on power consumption, cooling efficiency, environmental health, and potential risks. Proactively identify trends that might indicate future issues.
Preventative Maintenance Scheduling: Plan and manage suppliers performing preventative maintenance for power, fire suppression, and cooling equipment to avoid failures and ensure the continuous operation of critical data centre services.
Vendor Management: Coordinate with external vendors for the procurement, installation, and maintenance of power and cooling equipment, ensuring adherence to service level agreements (SLAs) and contractual terms.
Competencies
Power Systems: Understanding of UPS, generators, rectifiers, and PDUs, along with energy efficiency metrics like PUE.
Cooling and Environmental Control: Proficiency in cooling technologies (CRAC/CRAH, chillers), airflow management, and environmental monitoring.
Fire Safety: Knowledge of fire suppression systems (Inergen) and safety protocols.
DCIM & BMS: Experience with Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) and Building Management Systems for integrated system monitoring and optimization.
Compliance & Sustainability: Familiarity with industry standards (ISO 50001, ISO 27001) and sustainable practices for energy efficiency.
Qualifications and Experience
Degree or equivalent in Electronics Engineering / Electrical Engineering /
Mechanical Engineering / Electro-Mechanical Engineering/ Telecommunications Engineering or relevant tertiary qualification
Masters in Engineering field is an added advantage
ECSA registration is an added advantage
