HISP (Health information Systems Program) is a global network of people, entities and organisations that design, implement and sustain Health Information Systems. As a network, HISP globally follows a participatory approach to support local management of healthcare delivery and information flows, and was established by the Department of Informatics at the University of Oslo.

HISP-SA seeks to appoint a Senior Software Developer to be based in Pretoria, South Africa.

Employment Type:is a 2year, Fixed term contract on post grade D2

The purpose of this position is  to manage the conceptualisation, design, development, support and maintenance of Software through the provisioning of a broad range of technical services and health information system services, throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), as required by the Manager: Product Development.

Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate the software development team’s contribution to the SDLC
Engage with external and internal clients, and Software Development (SWD) colleagues to conceptualise and design information systems assets to support HISP’s role in health information systems strengthening as a foundation for better systems strengthening.
Oversee and guide the building, enhancement, testing and maintenance of new or existing software and database assets, across the following three main categories – DHIS2 core, DHIS2 Apps, Other DHIS related and non-DHIS assets – as required based on HISP’s SWD needs;
Provide guidance in the development and maintenance of knowledge and expertise to be able to competently use required software development languages and frameworks, as the need arises from time-to-time, including but not limited to VB, Java and SQL, ASP, ASP.Net and/or PHP, Android/J2ME software- and PostgreSQL database development Support processes driven by the Manager: Product Development to establish and maintain an effective SDLC and effective collaborative working arrangements, including setting appropriate standards.
Provide technical support including debugging and testing of all relevant software;
Assist with training facilitation as and when required;
Take a lead in the drafting of documentation relevant to the software development life cycle, including producing user manuals and reports as required;
Attending HISP-SA project and management meetings as required;
Present academic and research papers at national and international conferences, with the prior written approval of the Manager: Product development; and
Produce reports specified by the Manager: product Development and undertaking related obligations.

Job Requirements:
An IT or related degree qualification.
At least 3 year’s work experience in the software development or a related field
Critical thinking and Problem-solving skills
Valid driver’s license needed and must be willing to be flexible i.t.o working hours and willing to
travel.
Solid understanding of object-oriented programming concepts Solid understanding of relational
database design and querying concepts Familiarity with version control concepts

Preferred Competency Requirements
Exposure to web development using HTML5, CSS and JavaScript,
Java, AngularJS, Ionic and Reacts JS
Knowledge of client/server application development
Knowledge of agile development methodologies
Knowledge of unit testing theory
