Key responsibilities:
- Participate in and/or lead the research group’s projects in the fields of mining engineering, rock engineering, geology, geophysics, occupational health and and/or mine seismology;
- Perform independent research in these fields, including the formulation of research and development questions and the development of collaborative research projects with other national and international research institutes;
- Build research networks;
- Mentor and supervise researchers and post-graduate students;
- Contribute to strategic planning within the research group;
- Prepare proposals in order to actively pursue contract research; and
- Assist current researchers with broader group projects, including operational and financial management.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
- A Masters in mining engineering, rock engineering or mine seismology;
- Experience and a track-record of at least three or more years in mining related research and development;
- Experience in mining, having three or more years of working in an operational mine environment;
- Ability to perform both fundamental and applied research in multi-disciplinary, diverse teams; and
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely with others in the research group.
