The African Alliance was founded as a queer-led non-profit organisation in 2013 to provide a space where some of the continent’s best minds in the development and transformation space could come together to collaborate, strategise and collectively advance rights-based work with a shared understanding of our past, our present and our hopes for the future. Over the years, the work of Alliance has grown from being a consulting agency to a full-service non-profit with partnerships and networks globally with an equally diverse portfolio of work.

African Alliance seeks to appoint a Senior Researcher-Health & Justice to be based in South Africa.

Responsibilites:
Conduct effective and efficient implementation and execution of programmatic aspects of research projects to the highest ethical standards
Provide research leadership to the principal investigator & project team on study design and development of study protocols, forms, as well as standard operating and meaningful participation procedures
Work closely with a diversity of community leaders and scientific partners to ensure that our research pushes the envelope, challenges the status quo, is meaningful, conscious of the context in which it is conducted and undertaken according to African best practice in research
Ongoing verification and quality assurance of all research related activities including documents, protocols, informed consents, study forms, and scientific as well as community engagement levels, including site visits to assess program progress, provide feedback and training, troubleshooting for scientific, data and technical issues, and ensure local skills transfer and compliance
Support analysis and interpretation of generated project data and their implications for the field
Support the development and publishing of research manuscripts
Keep up-to-date by reading specialist literature and interpreting results of data published by other working groups and prepare basic language summaries for use by community groups
Present results to respective audiences
Contribute to the planning and development of research agendas and presentations for workshops, training and related meetings and conferences
Develop a research strategy for the African Alliance using a co-creation process
Support resource mobilisation for the execution of the Alliances research strategy
Build organisational capacity and effective partnerships to generate, understand and use research evidence
Ensure effective dissemination of research findings within and outside the organisation
Must be:
Able to work independently with minimum supervision
Able to meet strict timelines
Able to work under extreme pressure and multi-task.
Be a team player with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Have at least 3 years project management experience, including staff management.
Education Requirements:
PhD – Public Health, Epidemiology
Other
Advanced computer and data analysis skills
Advanced writing and presentation skills for preparation of grant applications, report writing, development of research Protocols and publication of results
Basic knowledge of in country-specific local languages is beneficial
