JOB TITLE : SENIOR RESEARCH OFFICER

JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Chief Research Officer, the incumbent is responsible for the design of data collection instruments, administer data collection instruments, supervise data analysis and provide training for Research Officers.
MAIN DUTIES
1.0 Designing of Data Collection Instruments
1.1 Determines data collection instruments to ensure relevant data capturing.
1.2 Field tests data collection instruments to ensure clarity.
1.3 Reviews data collection instruments to incorporate changes.
2.0 Administration of Data Collection Instruments
2.1 Assigns Research Officers to administer data collection instruments.
2.2 Supervises data collection process to provide advice in time.
3.0 Supervision of Data Analysis
3.1 Decides on data to be captured for analysis.
3.2 Examines preliminary reports for correction.
3.3 Interprets data to ensure understanding.
3.4 Prepares reports to facilitate informed decision.
4.0 Provision of Training
4.1 Runs in-service training for Researchers to improve their performance.
4.2 Recommends training of Research Officers to enhance their skills.
JOB SPECIFICATION
Education and Training
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences plus two (2) years’ experience in research field with proved record.
RESPONSIBILITY
Must ensure value for money.
Error in the job might lead to incorrect decision making.
Equipment must be in good working condition to ensure safety of operators. Data and records must be well stored.
COMPLEXITY
– Situational decision making will be necessary.
– Ability to solve work-related problems.
The incumbent will receive direct supervision from the Chief Research Officer. Dexterity is a necessity.
– Strong planning ability is required.
COMMUNICATION
The incumbent must have excellent communication skills to use in communicating with different levels of personnel.
The incumbent may be required to represent the department in official meetings.
