You are hereby notified that the job specification for the position of Senior Renewable Energy Engineer, Grade H, advertised under Circular Notice No. 3 dated 27th October 2025, has been corrected as follows:
JOB TITLE
Senior Renewable Energy Engineer
Grade: H

JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Engineer, the Senior Renewable Energy Engineer will lead the research, design, implementation, and maintenance of renewable energy systems — with a focus on solar, biomass, and biogas technologies.
This role is critical to advancing ATS’s mission to promote sustainable energy solutions, reduce reliance on imported fuels, and improve environmental and public health outcomes in Lesotho.
MAIN DUTIES
1. Project Design and Engineering
- Conduct energy requirement assessments and climatological studies.
- Develop detailed designs for solar, wind, biogas, and energy storage systems.
- Perform energy yield assessments and system simulations.
- Construct biomass devices, biogas systems, and solar systems (both passive and active).
- Use engineering software (e.g., SolidWorks, PVSol, TSOI) for modelling and analysis.
- Optimise layouts and configurations for performance and cost efficiency.
- Analyse utility bills and calculate thermal efficiency of structures.
- Specify compatible electrical controls, thermostats, sensors, and valves.
- Prepare detailed parts lists and technical diagrams.
- Maintain and repair systems as needed.
2. Technical Oversight and Compliance
- Ensure designs meet regulatory, environmental, and safety standards.
- Review and approve engineering documentation and specifications.
- Coordinate with permitting authorities and ensure compliance with local codes.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation plans.
- Ensure all team members adhere to health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Undertake regular needs assessments of renewable energy infrastructure.
3. Project Management
- Lead project planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
- Monitor progress and ensure timely delivery of milestones.
- Manage procurement activities related to the programme.
- Prepare and present project reports to supervisors and stakeholders.
4. Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
- Facilitate collaboration with other programmes within the department.
- Support internal knowledge-sharing and training initiatives.
- Lead technical meetings and workshops.
- Represent the ATS renewable energy programme locally and internationally.
5. Innovation and Business Development
- Research emerging renewable energy technologies and assess applicability.
- Contribute to proposal development and client presentations.
- Identify opportunities for system improvements and cost reductions.
- Engage with industry forums and stay updated on market trends.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s Degree (BSc, BEng, BTech) in Renewable Energy, Sustainable Energy, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Solar Technology.
- OR Master’s Degree (MSc, MEng, MTech) in the above fields.
- Ability to use drafting and simulation software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PVSol, TSOI, and similar tools.
EXPERIENCE
- Relevant experience in a renewable energy environment as a technologist, engineer, specialist, or scientist is compulsory.
- With a Bachelor’s Degree: Minimum of five (5) years relevant work experience.
- With a Master’s Degree: Minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience.
- Must have hands-on experience working with solar technologies (solar water heaters, pumps, dryers, cookers, ovens, and electrification systems).
- Must also have experience working with biogas systems and biomass devices such as wood-burning stoves and ovens.

Authority for Decision Making:
- Responsible for making decisions regarding the purchase of solar panels and materials for solar technologies.

- Must address solar technology-related issues on a daily basis.
Supervision Received:
- Reports directly to the Chief Engineer.
Dexterity:
- Required to work with both hands.
Contacts:
- Regular interaction with other ATS members, and occasionally with other government departments, ministries, and external organisations.

Mental Effort:
- Must possess strong planning, analytical, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
Physical Effort:
- Minimal physical effort required, though may occasionally handle solar panels and related equipment.
Emotional Effort:
- Must be emotionally stable and patient to effectively handle challenging situations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Unfavourable Conditions:
- May be required to work under difficult field conditions in various districts.
- May work beyond normal hours when necessary.
Hazards:
- Possibility of electric shocks.
- Possibility of burns from hot surfaces.
