Applications are invited from suitably qualified local candidates for the following vacant position tenable at the Ministry of Law and Justice.
JOB TITLE: Senior Public Relations Officer
DEPARTMENT: Administration – Justice
RESPONSIBLE TO: Public Relations Manager
JOB SUMMARY
To contribute in Ministerial Communication strategy development process, to manage crisis, to participate in the management of ministerial events, to maintain positive media relations, and to participate in maintaining ministry’s identity.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To contribute in Ministerial Communication strategy development process
1.1 To participate in internal consultations to familiarize with ministerial activities plans (vision, goals).
1.2 To participate in the stakeholder analysis and mapping.
1.3 To contribute in the stakeholder sensitization.
1.4 To partake in the drafting of communication strategy.
1.5 To participate in the development of an annual plan.
2. To manage crisis
2.1 To participate in the development of crisis communication plan.
2.2 To take part in organizing press conferences.
2.3 To organize meetings with relevant stakeholders.
2.4 To disseminate crisis information and announcements through the media.
3. To participate in the management of ministerial events
3.1 To take part in publicizing ministerial events for participation and to create awareness.
3.2 To participate in drafting of speeches.
3.3 To oversee coverage and documenting of events.
3.4 To invite media to the event.
3.5 To write scripts.
4. To maintain positive media relations
4.1 Identify influential reporters.
4.2 Update media contact lists and stay in touch with media houses.
4.3 To coordinate distribution of promotional materials to media houses.
5. To participate in maintaining ministry’s identity
5.1 To design and produce promotional material.
5.2 To oversee distribution of promotional material and displaying of banners.
5.3 To ensure that ministerial signboards are properly erected.
JOB SPECIFICATION
- Master’s Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Media Studies and a minimum of two (2) years working as Public Relations Officer.
OR - Honors or Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Media Studies with four (4) years working experience in public relations and at least three (3) years’ experience as Public Relations Officer.
