Applications are invited from suitably qualified local candidates for the following vacant positions tenable at the Ministry of Law and Justice.

DEPARTMENT : GOVERNMENT PRINTING

JOB TITLE : SENIOR PRINTING OFFICER
GRADE : E
RESPOSIBLE TO : PRINTING SUPERVISOR


JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Printing Supervisor (BINDING), the Senior Printing Officer is responsible for Planning, cutting, folding, sewing, trimming, on-the-job training, supervision and recording.

MAIN DUTIES
1. PLANNING FOR THE JOB
1.1 Clean and programme the machine to be ready for use.
1.2 Identify the job to be executed to ensure the start of the production process.
1.3 Arrange the sequence of the identifying numbers of the sections of the job to ensure readiness to start the particular operation.

EXECUTION OF THE WORK
2.1 Cut printed sheet to enable other finishing operations to be carried out.
2.2 Fold the printed section in accordance with the agreed imposition to ensure that printed pages appear in the correct sequence.
2.3 Examine gathered sections or stitches to ensure that they are complete and in the correct sequence.
2.4 Sewing by hand or machine gathered or inserted sections for quality, durability, and flexibility.
2.5 Trim to complete documents to get them ready for dispatch to the customer.
2.6 Record on appropriate form time taken and materials used on the job to facilitate proper costing

ON THE JOB TRAINING
3.1 Carries out the job training of junior staff to ensure the acquisition of necessary skills required in the printing industry to increase productivity.

SUPERVISION
Supervises junior staff to ensure that the job is done according to acquired standards.

Check daily dockets to ensure that only productive hours are charged to the customer and monitor the movement of staff.

RECORDING
Recording appropriate forms the hours taken on the job and material used to facilitate costing.

Perform any other relevant duties assigned by competent authority.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Educational and Training
• Diploma/Certificate in Business studies or any related field plus four (4) years’ experience as Printing Assistant is requested.
OR
• Certificate in Printing Technology plus five (5) years’ experience as a Printing Assistant.
OR
C.O.S.C./GCE, plus seven (7) years of experience as a Printing Assistant.
