Applications are invited from suitably qualified local candidates for the following vacant position tenable at the Ministry of Law and Justice.
POSITION DETAILS
- Department: Government Printing
- Job Title: Senior Printing Officer
- Reports To: Printing Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Printing Supervisor, the Senior Printing Officer is responsible for printing, machine minding, on-the-job training, supervision, and recording.
MAIN DUTIES
1. Printing / Execution of Work
- Compiles all materials to be used on a particular job.
- Mounts plates on the machine in preparation for printing.
- Pulls proofs to check ink balance and correct positioning of the job.
- Takes proofs for reading to ensure the job is error-free.
- Prints (runs) the actual job to complete the order according to the specifications required by the customer.
- Checks the job frequently during the run to ensure consistent quality is maintained.
2. Machine Minding
- Washes and cleans the machine daily after use to ensure cleanliness.
- Oils the machine daily, weekly, and monthly as per specifications to ensure durability.
3. On-the-Job Training
- Carries out job training of junior staff to ensure acquisition of the necessary skills required in the printing industry, thereby increasing productivity.
4. Supervision
- Supervises junior staff to ensure that work is done according to acquired standards.
5. Recording
- Records on appropriate forms the hours taken on the job and materials used to facilitate proper costing.
6. Other Duties
- Performs any other relevant duties assigned by the competent authority.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Educational and Training Requirements
- Certificate in Printing Technology / Fitting and Machining plus three (3) years’ experience in the printing industry;
OR - C.O.S.C. / GCE plus five (5) years’ experience in the printing industry.
In-depth knowledge of printers’ machinery and tools will be an added advantage.
