About the role

We are looking for a Senior Mining Engineer to develop detailed mine and infrastructure plans for a newly approved project. The successful candidate will be required to analyse geological, economic and production planning information to devise strategies and plans to substantially contribute to achieving RBM’s business objectives. He or she will produce the required outputs by applying sound judgement, mining engineering techniques and appropriate experience to solve complex problems. He or she will then translate the solutions into practical mine plans and production schedules. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate mine plans to the relevant stakeholders in a manner and format that will allow for successful implementation.

This role is is required to source and identify all technical aspects pertaining to mine design and mine planning for his or her area of responsibility. Reporting to the Principal Advisor: Mine Development, you will:


Generate the reserve database and Mine Scheduling Model

  • Compile and analyze ore reserve statements
  • Continuous interaction with the resource modelling team to ensure accurate production forecasting models
  • Assist with the compilation of reserve statementsDesign

  • Maintain mining database and planned mining areas
  • Identify, investigate and technically evaluate concepts using the appropriate tools and methods
  • Mining base elevations and mine layouts to maximize value
  • Create and maintain mine design criteria documentation in consultation with the Principal advisor mining engineeringReconciliations
  • Keep up to date on reconciliation results and adapt mine planning to remain optimal

  • Document findings and influencing factorsPerforming Technical duties to high standards
  • Provide technical expertise and analysis on various projects as far as mining and reserves are concerned
  • Ensure that scheduling systems and production reporting systems are maintained and appropriate to RBM’s mining methods
  • Maintain a usable and neat data structure for all mine design and scheduling related files and information
  • Maintain and improve safety, health and environmental standards and practices
  • Perform fair and reasonable tasks related to the job and working environment, at the discretion of the supervisorProduction Forecasting, Budgeting and Reporting
  • Produce monthly forecast schedules and present findings to the mine team
  • Produce high quality short and medium term plans to guide operations and facilitate production scheduling
  • Compile the annual 2 year production budget and provide input for the 5 year plan and LOM planAbout you To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • Preferred – B. Sc or B. Eng Mining Engineering or B.Tech Mining Engineering Degree or B. Sc Degree with appropriate specialization in a related field and appropriate experience.
  • Financial or Geotechnical qualifications would be beneficial
  • EB License, Qualify for registration with a body recognized by JORC would be highly beneficial.
  • Mine Design Software Skills, Strong Excel capability, project planning techniques and software knowledge
  • Minimum 3 years post-graduate experience
