Position Summary 

  • Verra has an opportunity for a Senior Manager, Accreditation Program Standards. In this challenging and rewarding role, the Senior Manager will be responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of accreditation standards that govern Verra’s programs. Building on the existing accreditation body and Verra oversight activities, the Accreditation Program Standards will form the complete set of Verra defined auditing, competency, training, and monitoring program requirements for validation/verification bodies (VVBs) who audit projects to Verra’s standards.
  • This role reports to the Director, Auditing and Accreditation and supports them through the implementation of a program designed to ensure Verra’s standards are highly credible and implemented as intended.

A day with Verra’s Program Management Team might include: 

  • Collaborating across Verra departments and external stakeholders to consult on Accreditation Program requirement needs.
  • Working with International Accreditation Forum (IAF) member bodies to identify concrete areas of opportunity to strengthen VVB performance through Verra’s Accreditation Program Standards.
  • Writing a policy or a procedure to specify/update accreditation requirements.
  • Hosting an online seminar with VVBs and Accreditation Bodies (Abs) on accreditation program requirements.
  • Accompanying a VVB on a project site visit, to assess their work and identify areas for improvement, as part of Verra’s performance observation audits.

Specific functions you will be responsible for leading:  

  • Developing, implementing, and overseeing Verra’s accreditation program strategy and objectives that ensure program integrity and credibility.
  • Planning, maintaining, and executing the annual work plan activities required to achieve Verra’s accreditation strategy and objectives.
  • Coordinating with other business units and external stakeholders to develop a full suite of Verra accreditation procedures and policies that are technically correct, clear, and implementable.
  • Monitoring and updating policies and procedures to ensure their continued suitability for Verra and related stakeholder needs.
  • Engagement/onboarding and relationship management with ABs and VVBs to ensure all Verra Accreditation Program Standard requirements are understood.
  • Developing key accreditation program metrics and/or indicators for inclusion in Verra’s VVB Performance Monitoring Program.
  • Leading the development of accreditation program training materials for VVBs and Abs.
  • Representing Verra at accreditation related conferences and workshops. Serve on various committees related to accreditation, as needed.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant accreditation standards and guidelines.
  • Continually researching and implementing improvements for Verra’s accreditation program to respond to performance and capacity learnings as well as to keep pace with evolving technology.

You bring with you:

  • 7-10 years of relevant experience, including 3-5 years of experience in standards development, accreditation, ideally in the GHG project certification or sustainable development project certification fields.
  • A degree, preferably a master’s, in a related environmental field and/or business administration, public administration, or management.
  • Experience with ISO 17029, ISO 14065, ISO 14064, and social auditing accreditation standards, ideally with certificates of standards/relevant training completion.
  • Lead auditor and/or strong understanding of the standards and principles of auditing and the auditing techniques of examining, questioning, evaluating, and reporting to determine a quality system’s adequacy and deficiencies.
  • Experience and knowledge of the standards industry, specifically in the voluntary and/or regulatory carbon market.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including prioritizing and working efficiently and effectively under deadlines. Experience in quality management and business process expertise preferred.
  • Culturally aware with the ability to collaborate with stakeholders and partners from different countries and cultures.
  • Initiative-taker with the ability to excel in a professional environment with limited supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Fluency in English is essential. Fluency in other UN languages would be an advantage.

  • Working at the forefront of programs designed to drive finance that tackle some of the most pressing environmental issues of our day.
  • Working on challenges and opportunities faced by practitioners of activities and VVBs aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving livelihoods.
  • Finding effective ways to improve the auditing process for projects and programs seeking Verra certification.
  • Building a global network of highly qualified ABs and VVBs addressing some of the most critical environmental and social issues of today.

  • Verra stakeholders consistently express positive feedback regarding your ability to collaborate to find workable solutions to challenges they face.
  • The quality of work being done by VVBs is consistent and high quality, reducing the time the Program Management Department spends reviewing and raising findings on project registration and issuance requests.

Compensation at Verra

To help us attract and retain top talent, Verra pays employees competitively to the market. In return, we expect each employee to, at a minimum:

For this position, the salary range is between $79,847 – $107,569 USD.  The compensation band is based on a U.S. base salary range and shares the min and max base salary for the position. This position is eligible for remote work.   

The final compensation offered will be contingent upon role, level and location. Our Talent team can share the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. 

We will recognize employees who go beyond expected performance with salary increases and/or promotions, but the bar for earning those rewards is high.

Salary is one component of Verra’s total compensation package, which also includes:

  • Health, vision and dental care, and life insurance;
