Senior Linesman- OnePower Lesotho
Full Time – Competitive Compensation

OnePower (1PWR) is seeking a Maseru-based Senior Linesman to develop and support reticulation programs and compliance alongside electrification of rural villages in Lesotho.

OnePower Lesotho, a startup Independent Power Producer (IPP), has been selected as the preferred developer of a 20MW solar PV power plant in Lesotho (the first in the country). In addition to on-grid solar OnePower was incorporated with a mission to develop bankable pay as you go (PAYG) solar mini-grids for community electrification and is currently in the piloting stage in Lesotho. As OnePower electrifies villages with solar minigrids, it will survey, scope, design, install and maintain power generation and medium and low voltage distribution infrastructure in compliance with applicable standards (SANS/SABS and Lesotho Grid Code). OnePower’s
senior linesman will lead a team of juniors, technicians and laborers that implement the power distribution systems supporting the business, in consultation with external technical experts and system engineers as needed.

Responsibilities of the Senior Linesman include but are not limited to:
● Understanding, maintaining, and updating company policies and procedures that effect power distribution (placing poles and underground or overhead conductors, MV/LV transformers, meters and junction box connection, grounding, circuit overload protections)
● Install, maintain and repair high powered electrical lines and systems
● Review of design schematics and drawings and confirming viability of engineered systems with respect to surveyed site conditions
● Coordinating within corporate divisions for workflow from procurement to transport and lay down of material onsite
● Responsibility for interpreting and implementing system design objectives onsite within construction scheduling framework
● Mentoring subordinates with regards to best practices and identifying internal [remove: and] stakeholder training and certification needs to achieve compliance with internal and external requirements (Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety, Applicable
Codes and Standards)
● Reporting to engineering/construction supervisors and acting as the focal person for all reticulation activity including progress reporting. Compiling data as needed to validate compliance to external stakeholders and to drive internal decision-making
● Staying up-to-date with linesman best practices and code standards
● Regularly supervising line work at construction sites including overnight and multi-day missions as needed in remote areas
● Supervise heavy equipment lifting and rigging jobs
● Responsible for identifying, selecting and maintaining appropriate inventory of tools and equipment required for different jobs
● Troubleshooting electrical problems on company and customer equipment.

Required skills and experience:
● Diploma in relevant electrical engineering/ technology/ installation field
● Valid Linesman certificate or Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC) Wireman’s License
● Minimum 5 years work experience demonstrating relevant line work at a senior level (managing subordinates); must provide references
● Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Sesotho
● Familiarity with information technology hardware and software (computers, tablets, office software for data analysis and documents generation)
● Valid Drivers License
