SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER IN HORTICULTURE

The National University of Lesotho invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Horticulture.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
For consideration, applicants must hold the following qualifications:
SENIOR LECTURER:
A PhD in Horticultural Sciences, or any related discipline plus at least three years teaching experience at tertiary level;
OR
Master’s Degree in Horticultural Sciences, or any related discipline plus at least five years teaching experience at tertiary level;
LECTURER:
A PhD in Horticultural Sciences, or any related discipline
OR
Master’s Degree in Horticultural Sciences, or any related discipline plus at least two years teaching experience at tertiary level.
For both cases also a:
Proven track record of supervising postgraduate research students;
Proven track record of research and publishing with reputable publishers, and in accredited journals;
Capability of crafting proposals that will attract funds for projects envisaged in the department;
Applicants must be capable of mentoring junior members of staff in research and publication.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching a variety of courses in Horticulture/Agronomy at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in a typical Department of Crop Sciences;
Assist in the development, diversification and launch of new programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
Partake in community development projects by promoting horticultural production that would lead to improved livelihoods;
Supervise undergraduate research projects and postgraduate dissertations;
Initiate and participate in the research programs of the Department/Faculty;
Assume administrative duties if required to;
Be a member of committees in the University established to effectively execute and accomplish NUL strategic goals;
Perform any other duties as would be required from time to time by the Head of Department (Crop Science).

EMPLOYMENT TYPE
Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable terms for locals or fixed term contract of three years subject to renewal for internationals.
