JOB SUMMARY

UNDER THE GENERAL SUPERVISION OF PRINCIPAL LECTURER, THE     INCUMBENT     IS     RESPONSIBLE     FOR     LECTURING; COORDINATION OF RESEARCH ACTIVITIES;  COORDINATION OF PROGRAMME     TEACHING     ACTIVITIES;     PREPARATION     & MANAGEMENT OF PROGRAMME BUDGET; SUPERVISION AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT; AND PROVIDING TECHNICAL SUPPORT.

MAIN DUTIES

1. LECTURING

1.1    Prepares  regularly,  lesson  plans  relevant  to  the  subject matter.

1.2    Delivers instruction/course material in the form of lectures and practical to complement theoretical knowledge acquired.

1.3    Sets tests and examinations to assess acquired knowledge obtained relevant course.

1.4    Invigilates students during tests and examinations to curb malpractice.

1.5    Records results for evaluation by the academic board and provides timely feedback to the students.

2.   COORDINATION OF RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

2.1     Identifies  regularly  research  problem  areas  relating  to  IT developmental   projects   in   order   to   address   discovered problems or constraints.

2.2     Undertakes research occasionally to keep abreast of new development and provides advice accordingly.

2.3     Supervises students’ research projects for the fulfilment of  academic requirements.

2.4     Collaborates with other institutions locally, regionally and internationally for the development in research programmes timely.

3. COORDINATION OF PROGRAMME TEACHING ACTIVITIES

3.1     Participates in the implementation of programme activities by providing guidance and allocating course work in order to ensure effective implementation of the curriculum on weekly basis.

3.2     Compiles programme reports to identify the accomplishments
          and failures of programme quarterly.

3.3     Liaises with other programmes, institutions   and   other divisions of the Ministry to acquire mutual support.

4   PREPARATION AND MANAGEMENT OF THE BUDGET

4.1     Participates  in  the  preparation  of  programme budget to finance planned programme activities.

4.2     Implements and monitors planned academic activities in order to ensure that  the  budgeted  activities  are  carried  out accordingly.

5   SUPERVISION AND DEVELOPMENT OF STAFF

5.1     Supervises lecturers by providing guidance and monitoring  their progress so as to achieve programmes objectives.

5.2     Participates  in  the  general  disciplines  of  both  staff  and students   within   the   relevant   programmes   to   maintain harmonious relationships.

5.3     Conducts performance review for the supervisees quarterly to ensure that the planned activities are implemented accordingly.

6   PROVIDING TECHNICAL SUPPORT

6.1     Facilitates  installation,  configures  and  maintains  LAN  to provide easy sharing of information.

6.2     Monitoring performance of LAN to ensure its effectiveness and efficiency.

6.3     Maintains security of LAN to protect it against harmful sites.

6.4     Assists  end  users  in  all  technical  problems  for  smooth operation.

6.5     Installs new and maintains existing hardware and software to improve the standards of Operations.

6.6     Ensures  proper  registration  and  allocation  of  students numbers to new students

6.7     Ensures that all students are allocated relevant courses for programme and level of study concerned.

6.8     Compilation and publication of results.

2. JOB SPECIFICATION

Education and training requirements

Masters   Degree   in   Computer   Science/   Computer   Systems Engineering/ Information Technology

OR

BSc   Computer   Science/   Computer   Systems   Engineering/ Information  Technology  PLUS Three (3)  years relevant work experience.
