LOCATION  National University of Lesotho (Roma)

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, or a closely related quantitative field.
  • At least 10 years’ experience for Professor/Associate Professor or 6 years’ experience for Senior Lecturer in Statistics.
  • A strong and sustained record of impactful research and scholarly publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals, showing significant contributions to the field of Statistics.
  • At least 10 publications for Professor/Associate Professor or 6 for Senior Lecturer in accredited journals from reputable publishers.
  • A proven record of mentoring and supervising junior academic staff, research assistants, and postgraduate students (Master’s and Ph.D.).
  • Proficiency in relevant statistical software packages (e.g., R, Python, SAS, SPSS, STATA).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Delivering high-quality, engaging teaching across a range of courses in Statistics and Data Science at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including areas like statistical inference, machine learning, big data analytics, data visualisation, and statistical modelling.
  • Leading and conducting cutting-edge research in area of Statistics and/or Data Science, actively publishing in top-tier journals, presenting at national and international conferences, and pursuing external research grants and funding opportunities.
  • Providing comprehensive mentorship and supervision to undergraduate research projects, Master’s (M.Sc./M.A.) dissertations, and Ph.D. theses in Statistics and Data Science, guiding students in their research and analytical endeavours.
  • Actively contributing to programme and curriculum development within the Department, ensuring the relevance, modernity, and quality of our academic offerings in Statistics and Data Science, including the design of new courses and specialised programmes.
  • Playing a key role in the strategic development and growth of the Department, the Faculty, and the National University of Lesotho as a whole, participating in relevant committees and institutional initiatives.
  • Engaging meaningfully with the community and industry through data-driven consulting, outreach programmes, workshops, and applying statistical and data science expertise to solve real-world problems.
  • Undertaking additional academic and administrative duties as assigned by the Head of Department or Dean of the Faculty, contributing to the overall smooth functioning and success of the academic unit.

Remuneration:

The University offers salaries and benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Employment type

Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable terms for Locals, and Two Years Contract for Non-Locals with a possibility of renewal.
