CommonProficiency in relevant statistical software packages (e.g., R, Python, SAS, SPSS, STATA) (for all levels).Proven record of mentoring and supervising junior academic staff, research assistants, and postgraduate students (Master’s and Ph.D.) (for all levels).A strong and sustained record of impactful research and scholarly publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals (for all levels).

Duties and Responsibilities (Common to all levels)

  1. Deliver high-quality, engaging teaching across a range of courses in Statistics and Data Science at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This includes areas like statistical inference, machine learning, big data analytics, data visualisation, and statistical modelling.
  2. Conduct research in the area of Statistics and/or Data Science, actively publishing in top-tier journals, presenting at conferences, and pursuing external research grants and funding opportunities. (Note: The Associate Professor level is expected to be leading and conducting “cutting-edge” research).
  3. Provide comprehensive mentorship and supervision to undergraduate research projects, Master’s (M.Sc./M.A.) dissertations, and Ph.D. theses in Statistics and Data Science.
  4. Actively contribute to programme and curriculum development within the Department, ensuring the relevance, modernity, and quality of academic offerings in Statistics and Data Science, including the design of new courses and specialised programmes.
  5. Engage meaningfully with the community and industry through data-driven consulting, outreach programmes, workshops, and applying statistical and data science expertise to solve real-world problems.
  6. Play a key role in the strategic development and growth of the Department, the Faculty, and the National University of Lesotho as a whole, participating in relevant committees and institutional initiatives.
  7. Undertake additional academic and administrative duties as assigned by the Head of Department or Dean of the Faculty.

Remuneration

The University offers salaries and benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Employment type

Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable terms for Locals, and Two Years Contract for Non-Locals with a possibility of renewal.
