Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Principal Lecturer, the incumbent is responsible for lecturing; conducting and coordinating research activities; development of projects geared towards community development; coordination of programme teaching activities; preparation and management of programme budget; and supervision and development of staff.
Main Duties
1. Lecturing
- Prepares lesson plans relevant to the subject matter to ensure proper delivery of curriculum content.
- Lectures in the relevant course, sets tests and examinations, and invigilates to assess students’ knowledge.
- Records results for presentation to the academic board for evaluation and approval, and provides timely feedback to students.
- Conducts relevant practical work regularly to complement theoretical knowledge.
- Facilitates placement of student teachers for teaching practice.
- Supervises student teachers during teaching practice.
- Conducts assessments of student teachers’ teaching practice.
- Compiles assessment reports for every teaching practice session.
2. Coordination of Research Activities
- Identifies research problem areas related to crop production developmental projects.
- Undertakes research to keep abreast of new developments and provides advice accordingly.
- Supervises student research projects for academic requirements.
- Collaborates with institutions locally, regionally and internationally on research programmes.
- Conducts periodic community surveys to gauge programme impact.
- Facilitates presentation of student proposals.
- Facilitates sourcing of research funds.
- Conducts seminars and presentations on research activities annually.
- Publishes peer‑reviewed articles bi‑annually.
3. Development of Projects Geared Towards Community Development
- Facilitates implementation of in‑service training for community development as needed.
- Facilitates and supervises student attachments for practical exposure and community training.
- Conducts outreach programmes to raise awareness and provide innovative skills for diversification and development.
- Facilitates work‑integrated learning.
4. Coordination of Programme Teaching Activities
- Participates in the implementation of programme activities by providing guidance and allocating coursework to ensure weekly curriculum delivery.
- Compiles programme reports quarterly to identify accomplishments and failures.
- Liaises with other programmes, institutions and Ministry divisions to acquire mutual support.
5. Preparation and Management of the Budget
- Participates in preparation of programme budget to finance planned activities.
- Implements and monitors planned academic activities to ensure alignment with the budgeted activities.
6. Supervision and Development of Staff
- Supervises lecturers by providing guidance and monitoring their progress to achieve programme objectives.
- Participates in maintaining general discipline among staff and students.
- Conducts quarterly performance reviews for supervisees to ensure implementation of planned activities.

Education and Training Requirements
- MSc Forestry / Forestry & Wood Sciences
OR - BSc Hons Forestry / Forestry & Wood Sciences plus one year in a related field
OR - BSc Forestry / Forestry & Wood Sciences plus two years of work experience in a related field
Experience at an institution of higher learning will be an added advantage.
