Purpose of Job

The Senior Joint Mission Analysis Cell (JMAC) Officer supports the Mission’s integrated analysis, situational awareness, and information assessment functions in support of the AUSSOM mandate. The role focuses on collection, integration, analysis, and dissemination of information related to political, security, humanitarian, operational, and protection developments within the Mission area to support decision-making and operational effectiveness.

Main Functions

  • Supports integrated analysis, situational awareness, and information assessment activities
  • Contributes to collection, integration, analysis, and dissemination of mission-related information
  • Prepares analytical reports, assessments, briefings, and risk analysis products
  • Supports early warning and emerging threat analysis
  • Enhances coordination and information-sharing between mission components
  • Maintains analytical tools, reporting frameworks, and information systems
  • Supports mission planning and decision-making through timely analysis

Specific Responsibilities

  • Prepare analytical reports, threat assessments, briefing notes, and situation updates
  • Monitor and analyze political, security, humanitarian, and operational developments
  • Support early warning and risk assessment processes
  • Contribute to integrated mission analysis and information-sharing mechanisms
  • Assist in maintaining analytical tools, databases, and reporting systems
  • Prepare briefing materials for mission leadership and stakeholders
  • Coordinate analytical inputs from mission components and external partners
  • Support liaison with AU structures, UN entities, and partners
  • Ensure compliance with confidentiality and information management standards
  • Maintain analytical records, mapping products, and databases
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience

  • Master’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Peace and Security Studies, Security Studies, Public Administration, Law, Military Science, Police Science, Conflict Studies, Intelligence Studies, or related field with at least 7 years of relevant experience, including 3 years in mission analysis or operational coordination
    OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least 10 years of relevant experience, including 3 years in mission analysis or operational coordination
  • Experience in AU, UN, or international field missions is desirable
  • Strong analytical, drafting, and reporting skills required
  • Experience in early warning, situational awareness, and risk assessment is an advantage

Tenure of Appointment

The appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract for one (1) year, with the first three (3) months as a probationary period. Renewal is subject to performance and funding availability.

Remuneration

Annual salary: US$ 125,607.58 (P3 Step 5) for internationally recruited staff, inclusive of all allowances.
US$ 91,058.73 for locally recruited staff of the African Union Commission, inclusive of all allowances.
