Purpose of Job

The Senior Information Technology Officer reports to the Chief Integrated Support Services (CISS) and supports the planning, coordination, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of Mission ICT systems and services in support of the AUSSOM mandate. The role ensures ICT infrastructure management, systems administration, network operations, user support, information security, and technology coordination within a complex field mission environment.

Main Functions

  • Supports planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of Mission ICT systems and infrastructure
  • Contributes to management of ICT infrastructure including networks, servers, communication systems, and enterprise applications
  • Ensures ICT service delivery, systems administration, and operational continuity
  • Supports ICT projects, upgrades, and technology initiatives
  • Assists with cybersecurity, data protection, and ICT compliance activities
  • Provides technical troubleshooting, user support, and system maintenance
  • Supports ICT reporting, monitoring, and information management

Specific Responsibilities

  • Manage and support ICT systems, infrastructure, and operational technology services
  • Administer networks, servers, communication systems, and enterprise applications
  • Ensure ICT service delivery, network operations, and system availability
  • Coordinate ICT projects, upgrades, deployments, and system improvements
  • Support cybersecurity, access control, and information security compliance
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and user support services
  • Monitor ICT infrastructure performance and system reliability
  • Prepare ICT reports, assessments, and technical documentation
  • Liaise with Mission components, contractors, and AU ICT structures
  • Support supervision of ICT personnel and field support teams
  • Maintain ICT records, logs, and technical documentation
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience

  • Master’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Information Systems, Network Engineering, Telecommunications, Software Engineering, or related field with at least 7 years of relevant experience, including 3 years in ICT systems administration or network operations
    OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least 10 years of relevant experience, including 3 years in ICT systems administration or network operations
  • ICT certifications (networking, cybersecurity, IT service management, cloud, etc.) are an advantage
  • Experience in international field missions is desirable
  • Strong technical, analytical, and coordination skills required

Tenure of Appointment

The appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract for one (1) year, with the first three (3) months as a probationary period. Renewal is subject to performance and funding availability.

Remuneration

Annual salary: US$ 125,607.58 (P3 Step 5) for internationally recruited staff, inclusive of all allowances.
US$ 91,058.73 for locally recruited staff of the African Union Commission, inclusive of all allowances.
