Position: Senior Houseman (Medical Officer)
Contract: Two years renewable on performance for non-locals and a performance based non-fixed term contract for locals
Reporting to the Hospital Medical Superintendent
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of Medical Superintendent, the Medical Officer manages and cares for patients, and manages services in the Hospital.
Job Requirements:
• Holder of valid degree in MB.ChB/MD. Registered with Lesotho Medical, Dental and Pharmacy council with at least two years of work experience
• Medical Officer will be assigned a certain number of wards by Medical Superintendent. He will be responsible for the management of his wards and wards round and full participations to the general round.
• The Medical Officer will be responsible for physical examinations and arrangement for routine investigation of all patients under their care. S/he will write detailed noted according to the proforma and Lid down firstly on admission and later as directed.
• The Medical Officer will be responsible for maintaining the various records and registers as laid down from time to time by Medical Superintendent
• The Medical Officer will not leave the Hospital area while on duty without permission of Deputy Medical Superintendent/Medical Superintendent
• The Medical Officer will be presenting monthly report of the cases in the ward and information to the medical Superintendent and coordinating clinical presentation of the ward
• The Medical Superintendent will review patient clinical management initiated by interns
• The Medical Officer will evaluate symptoms and determine what is wrong with a patient. If he does not know of hand diagnosis should be, it is his/her responsibility to do necessary research
• The incumbent must how much medicine to prescribe based on patients’ history based on the Lesotho guidelines
• The incumbent must advise patients on prevention od disease and other illness
NB: Renewal of contract of employment is subject to exceptional performance.
Qualifications and expectations
• Degree in MB ChB/MD plus two (2) years working experiences
Certificate in administration will be an added advantage
Attributes: Computer literacy: up to date Registration with Lesotho Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Council: Good Communication skills both written and verbal: interpersonal skills: intellect with high standing self – assurance: Flexibility and adaptability and self-motivation, action and quality oriented.
