JOB TITLE : SENIOR HEALTH ASSISTANT

JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Health Inspector, the incumbent is responsible for the day to day management and coordination of activities within the specialized units at the district level. He/she is also responsible for the preparation of work-plans for such units and its subsequent monitoring and evaluation.
MAIN DUTIES
- Disease control and prevention
- Participates in the collection of data and coordination of disease outbreak investigation.
- Supervises health assistants in the collection of samples for laboratory analysis during disease outbreaks.
- Health Inspection
- Inspects business premises for licensing
- Carries routine inspections to ensure adherence to Public Health Laws
- Supervises the sitting of business premises, restaurants, hotels and lodges.
- Inspects food intended for public consumption under the supervision of the Health Inspector
- Conducts meat inspection at the abattoirs.
- Health Education
- Carries out health hygiene education to individuals, families, students, patients, organized group and the general public
- Provides information, education and communication skills to health assistants as well as other extension workers in order to foster changes in knowledge attitudes and practices
- Coordinates and manages a specialized unit within a district
- The incumbent will be assigned to see all day to day running of a specialized unit at the district
- Assists the Health Inspector in the preparation of annual recurrent budget for units that constitutes the department
- Under the direction of the Health Inspector, the officer coordinates his/her office with other Government ministries or departments in the promotion of Primary Health Care
- Undertakes any other related duties that may be assigned to him/her from time to time by his/her seniors.
JOB SPECIFICATION
Certificates in Public Health/Certificate in Environmental Health from a recognized institution plus two (2) years working experience as a Health Assistant in the Public Sector.
All candidates who apply for position at Grade H level and above will be subjected to assessment process as per Public Service Regulations of 2008- Division III section 24 (1).
