Key responsibilities:
- Operate machines to produce parts or tools by turning, boring, milling, slotting, grinding, welding, bending, rolling, drilling and cutting on guillotine of metal stock or components;
- Fit and assemble metal parts, tools or sub-assemblies;
- Cut, thread, bend and install hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines;
- Dismantle faulty tools, assemble, repair or replace defective parts.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
- Mechanical trade test (Red Seal Artisan) such as fitter and turner, instrument maker or toolmaker OR an N3 certificate in mechanical drawing and design;
- At least ten years’ experience as a qualified artisan in general engineering;
- Must be highly skilled as a machinist;
- Experienced in TIG welding of ferrous & non-ferrous metals;
- Experience with sheet metal fabrication;
- Experience with maintenance and repairs/breakdowns to plant and equipment;
- Experience of working with variety of metals, ceramics, glass and polymer materials;
- Good hand-eye coordination;
- Able to work from sample parts;
- Thread cutting internal and external;
- Knowledge of imperial and metric standards.
