Position: Senior Competitiveness and Product Development Officer
Number of Positions: One (1)
Responsible To: Manager – Industry Development
Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Manager Industry Development, the Senior Competitiveness and Product Development Officer is responsible for the development and coordination of processes towards competitiveness of industries and enhancement of product development.
Main Duties
1. Coordinates Innovation and Product Development Policies and Strategies
• Researches trade agreements that Lesotho’s products can benefit from to increase export earnings.
• Collaborates with the Department of Quality Metrology and Technical Regulation to ensure high-quality products for international markets.
• Works with LNDC and BEDCO to provide investors with information to enhance innovation and product development.
• Designs technical assistance interventions to improve competitiveness of priority sectors.
• Conducts regular research to enhance development of indigenous industry.
• Develops strategies geared towards innovation and product development.
2. Facilitates Trade Shows Nationally, Regionally and Internationally
• Solicits information on ongoing trade shows.
• Participates in trade fairs and exhibitions.
• Liaises with stakeholders to advance value chains for local products.
3. Supervises Staff
• Coordinates work plans.
• Monitors implementation.
• Ensures timely performance appraisals.
• Manages sectional budgets.
• Prepares training plans.
• Disciplines staff.
Job Specification
Master’s Degree in Economics/BCom/Business Administration plus four (4) years
OR
Post Graduate Diploma plus five (5) years
OR
Bachelor’s Degree plus six (6) years
Other Relevant Knowledge
• Thorough understanding of regional and international trade agreements
• Computer skills
