Together we are working toward a future in which all cancer patients have access to the best precision care.

About the role

As a Clinical Informaticist you’ll sit at the intersection of clinical oncology and data informing data ingestion, data flow, semantic management and product design.

Biomedical information is unlike any other domain. The complexity requires a set of skills that tend to come from both clinical experience and technical know-how. You will see the entire spectrum of oncology data from the electronic medical record and registry, to molecular diagnostic labs and manual abstraction information models. You will have to be adept at jumping from technical to clinical, like writing a complex SQL query to explaining the nuance of EGFR variants and how they affect lung cancer treatments and back again!

At Syapse, you’ll spend your days advancing a uniquely rich database of real-world data driving the practice of precision medicine in oncology. You’ll propel work across the company to develop and enhance knowledge bases, structure and normalize data, and combine new data sources. Your and the team’s work enables meaningful extraction of clinical insights used by Sypase researchers and products to drive data-driven decision making in patient care.

Things you’ll accomplish in your first year

  • Build knowledge bases and mappings to drive product development and deliverables
  • Drive data model enhancements to supercharge Syapse database
  • Spearhead critical data normalization projects

To do these things and more our team utilizes a variety of tools and standardized terminologies like: various clinical systems, standard Omics nomenclature including HUGO & HGNC, controlled clinical vocabularies like SNOMED-CT & ICD-10, Statistical Analysis packages like R, query languages like SQL & SPARQL, and strong collaboration skills.

What you bring to the table

  • Positive attitude and ability to juggle competing priorities
  • Ability to write scripts (e.g. python, R) to perform basic data manipulation
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oncology data (including biomedical terminologies such as biomarkers, treatments, diagnosis and provider workflow)
  • Deep professional experience integrating data from various clinical systems such as lab information systems, EHRs, pharmacy and/or claims
  • Experience leveraging existing as well as creating new oncology data/information models from scratch
