Purpose of Job
The Senior Civil Engineer supports the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of engineering and infrastructure projects for the AUSSOM mission.
The role ensures effective design, construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of mission facilities and infrastructure in a complex field environment.
Main Functions
- Plan and coordinate engineering and infrastructure projects
- Support construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of mission facilities
- Conduct technical assessments and infrastructure planning
- Coordinate contractors and project implementation
- Ensure compliance with engineering, safety, and environmental standards
- Support infrastructure reporting and documentation
- Liaise with mission components and stakeholders
Key Responsibilities
- Design, assess, and supervise infrastructure works including roads, buildings, drainage and facilities
- Prepare technical documents including BoQs, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates
- Monitor contractor performance and project quality
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and engineering standards
- Produce technical reports and progress updates
- Support maintenance planning and infrastructure management
- Assist in supervising junior engineering staff
- Maintain engineering records and documentation systems
Academic Requirements
Candidates must have either:
- Master’s degree + 7 years experience, OR
- Bachelor’s degree + 10 years experience
Fields: Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Structural Engineering, Architecture, or related fields.
Additional requirements:
- At least 3 years in supervisory level roles
- Engineering certification is an advantage
- Experience in field missions is desirable

- Strong civil engineering and construction supervision skills
- Ability to manage infrastructure projects in field environments
- Knowledge of BoQs, drawings, and technical specifications
- Contractor and project coordination skills
- Understanding of safety and environmental compliance
- Strong reporting and analytical skills
- Ability to work under pressure in complex environments
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Project, and MS Office
Tenure of Appointment
Fixed-term contract for 1 year, renewable subject to performance and funding. First 3 months are probationary.
Remuneration
Annual salary:
- US$ 125,607.58 (international staff, inclusive allowances)
- US$ 91,058.73 (local staff, inclusive allowances)
