The Office of the Auditor-General (OAG) is an independent and autonomous body and is the Supreme Audit Institution in Lesotho. (OAG) is responsible for auditing government revenue and spending and overseeing public funds’ management, quality, and credibility of the governments reported financial data. OAG invites applications from suitably qualified local candidates for the following position:

CORE DESCRIPTION

Senior Auditor is responsible for planning an audit, supervision of an audit team and drafting of paragraphs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Acquires knowledge and understanding of the audited entity to determine the approach to be adopted and the nature and extent of enquiries to be made.
  2. Establishes the key audit objectives with appropriate Risk of Significant Misstatement by planning the engagement, identifying the significant accounts, the significant risks, and the significant fraud risks, in conjunction with the Audit Manager.
  3. Develops testing procedures relevant to risk and test objectives.
  4. Communicates assigned tasks to the engagement team in a clear and concise manner, ensuring high-quality, accurate, and efficient results.
  5. Assesses the sufficiency and appropriateness of evidence and conclusions reached on an audit by reviewing the working papers of team members and evaluating issues raised.
  6. Applies knowledge of current issues in audit, financial reporting standards, regulatory requirements, and industry-specific concerns to client engagements, identifies where they may impact a client, and reflects these in the audit documentation.
  7. Documents the results of the review process in accordance of OAG audit methodology.
  8. Identifies audit differences and issues and escalates as appropriate.
  9. Concludes on key accounting issues and identifies issues for reporting in the management letter and other communications with management and those charged with governance and prepares the first drafts.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Chartered Accountancy, Master’s degree in Accounting, Auditing, MSc. Accounting, Auditing plus 3 years’ experience in auditing as an Auditor in a busy environment.
  • General Accountant, BCom Accounting, Auditing, BSc. Accounting, Auditing, plus 5 years’ experience in auditing as an Auditor in a busy environment.
  •  Membership in a professional body will be an added advantage.

OTHER NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of training techniques for on-the-job training
  • Knowledge of auditing techniques including Computer Assisted Auditing Skills
  • Research and Analytical skills
  • Quality control on work plans and reports
  • Experience in leading others (through management or project teams), including giving direction to team members, coaching less experienced resources, and providing feedback.
  • Strong understanding of public sector structures and reporting.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, Planning and organization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, good presentation and report writing skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail, initiative, and team player
  • High level of integrity.
