The Office of the Auditor-General (OAG) is an independent and autonomous body and is the Supreme Audit Institution in Lesotho. OAG is responsible for auditing government revenue and spending and overseeing public funds’ management, quality, and credibility of the government’s reported financial data.

OAG invites applications from suitably qualified local candidates for the following position:

JOB TITLE: SENIOR AUDITOR (PERFORMANCE AUDITS)

CORE DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Manager, the purpose of the position is to produce audit plans (for the audits carried out throughout the year and those to be followed), supervise audits, follow up audits, report on the undertakings thereof, and participate in the training of performance auditors.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Plans the audit in a manner that ensures that an audit of high quality is carried out in an economical, efficient, and effective way and in a timely manner.
  2. Draw up individual team annual activity plans to be consolidated by the Manager.
  3. Produces detailed work plans for execution of the audits and for the audits to be followed.
  4. Participate in the meeting with the auditee to introduce the audit team and establish the contact person.
  5. Oversees the teams and verifies that they follow the work plans during the execution of the main audit.
  6. Validates that the working paper files contain appropriate evidence, which is complete, systematically organized, indexed, and cross-referenced.
  7. Formulates relevant findings, conclusions, and recommendations and drafts the audit report.
  8. Provide management with a brief of what will be covered at an oral presentation to the audited body on the findings and conclusions of the report.
  9. Presents the draft report during the Steering Committee meeting and incorporates changes to the draft report as suggested by the Steering Committee and the auditee.
  10. Supervises collection of data during the follow-up audit and drafts the follow-up audit reports.
  11. Assesses training needs of auditors, undertakes on-the-job training, and participates in conducting in-house training courses.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

BA in Economics/Statistics plus 5 years experience in research or monitoring and evaluation A Master’s degree will be an added advantage
