The Equal Education Law Centre (EELC) focuses on public interest litigation and advocacy to advance the right to basic education in South Africa. The Law Centre also aims to develop young, skilled attorneys and law graduates in public interest litigation.
The Equal Education Law Centre seeks to appoint a Senior Attorney to be based in Western Cape .
We are a team of activist lawyers working to advance the struggle for quality and equality in education, through legal advocacy and strategic litigation. The EELC works closely with our sister organisation, Equal Education, a movement of learners, parents, teachers and community members, working for quality and equality in South African education, through analysis and activism.
Requirements:
Admission as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa with at least five year’s post articles experience;
Experience in strategic litigation, preferably with an education or child rights focus;
Ability to think strategically about litigation and other forms of legal advocacy;
Ability to guide and mentor junior attorneys;
Strong research and exceptional writing skills;
Based in the Western Cape or able to relocate.
Candidates who demonstrate a commitment to social justice and struggles for equality will be preferred.
