POST TITLE: SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
DIVISION/DEPARTMENT: ADMINISTRATION
REPORTS TO: BURSAR
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the Bursar, Senior Accountant is responsible for management of the Accounts Section. He/she maintains the General Ledger of the Institution and other related Accounting records.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The key duties of the post are as follows: –
- Management of the Finance and Accounts Section
- Monitors and maintains the General Ledger of the Institution on a daily basis and prepares the quarterly and annual financial statements
- Assists Bursar in preparation and monitoring of the institution’s budget
- Assists the Bursar in preparing quarterly managements reports
- Prepares schedules year end audit purposes
- Develops and updates Fixed Asset Register at all times and attends to identified discrepancies.
- Assist in coordinating annual audits.
- Prepares Fixed Asset Schedule in accordance with financial policy.
- Controls cash management (Monthly Bank reconciliations and cash projections).
- Assist Bursar in the design, implementation and review of the Internal Control System as well as Accounting Procedures in order to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Check and verifies the correctness of the General Ledger and Trial Balances.

JOB SPECIFICATION
Experience and Qualifications
- Chartered Accountant registered with the Lesotho Institute of Accountants plus at least five (5) years practical accounting experience with at least two years at the supervisory level.
OR
- BComm Degree in Accounting plus at least seven (7) years practical accounting experience with at least two years at the supervisory level
Personal Attributes
- Attentive to details.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Good communicator
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Computer Skills especially Advanced Excel spreadsheets and Sage 300 Accounting package.
- Thorough understanding of financial reporting frameworks and taxe laws
- Strategic and Analytical Skills
