Senior Accountant
Reports To: Finance Manager
Position Overview
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for processing, correcting, and reconciling a wide range of accounting documents, including invoices, departmental billings, employee reimbursements, cash receipts, vendor statements, and journal vouchers. The incumbent will also review and code financial information to ensure accurate financial reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Prepare financial statements and regulatory reporting documents.
- Prepare financial reports for tax authorities, regulatory agencies, and shareholders.
- Manage the general ledger and assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Review tax preparation and provide assistance where required.
- Reconcile bank statements and payroll.
- Prepare monthly management accounts.
- Manage daily bank transactions and payment receipts, and resolve related queries.
- Approve transactions within the accounting system.
- Prepare monthly VAT returns and statutory accounts.
- Sort incoming and outgoing daily correspondence and respond to related queries.
- Extract fuel sales volumes for retail clients, reconcile records, and prepare monthly client rebates.
- Manage accounts receivable and alert management to problematic accounts.
- Capture financial data for monthly tax returns and ensure all taxes are paid on time.
- Reconcile all tax-related matters with the tax authority.
Minimum Requirements
- Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification is mandatory.
- Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years’ experience in the finance field will be an added advantage.
- Proficiency in Sage Accounting and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
- Proactive individual with a strong focus on systems and reporting improvements.
- Payroll experience.
- Experience in preparing balance sheet accounts.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of accounting systems.
Major Challenges
- Ability to work extended hours (10+ hours) or until all required work is completed.
- Availability to work on weekends when required.
- Monitoring and managing debtors and creditors.
- Tracking company expenditure and assisting departments to operate within allocated budgets.
