Letšeng seeks to engage professionals with appropriate skills and aptitude to fill the positions of SECURITY MANAGER (Paterson Band DU).

PURPOSE: To ensure optimum security protection measures at the operational level at Letšeng Diamond Mine, thus reducing asset losses and providing assurance through the implementation of an integrated security programme.

MAIN OUTPUTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proactively lead and advise the leadership team on the implementation of security strategies within the operation’s broader business plans at the local level
  • Provide guidance to the operation leadership team on diamond security as well as implement appropriate countermeasures to reduce corporate asset loss
  • Apply security strategy to deliver business objectives, aligned with robust financial management and client requirements. I.e., within budget, on time, good quality (OPEX & CAPEX)
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of security policies, practices, procedures and technologies to ensure alignment with international best practices, and to enable effective mitigation of potential losses
  • Engage and develop comprehensive intelligence and insights through interaction with local communities on internal and external threats to resource protection, and position the operation to respond appropriately to those threats
  • Develop an intelligence-driven operation to properly align the allocation of time, resources, and personnel to ensure maximum probability of success and performance excellence regarding reviews, investigations, assessments, etc.
  • Providing assurance to the operation leadership team and other stakeholders on the adequacy of the protective measures in place at the operation
  • Identify critical security focus areas in line with business drivers and organisational priorities which ensures adherence to the Value Management Maturity Model
  • Facilitate and instruct others on the Security Risk Management Process identify key areas of focus and agree mitigation approach taking various business trade-off decisions into account as well as applying and incorporating risk management techniques into diamond control with measurable outcomes
  • Continually review the organisational design to ensure efficient and effective delivery across the operation
  • In conjunction with the Metallurgical team, design and continuously raise loss prevention strategies across the operation
  • Ensure adherence to Security and SHE programme goals and objectives
  • Ensure adherence to the company’s environmental management programme and objectives. Ensure they are implemented according to statutory legislation and the Strategic Management Plan
  • Drive changes in Security which may be implemented to enhance business operations/projects, and increase the potential for profit thus creating a high-performance culture
  • Negotiates critical controversial issues with clients thereby facilitating paradigm shifts as required to drive success
  • Lead change, from identifying opportunities for improvement to advocating and supporting a better approach to address organisational problems and opportunities, as well as work process issues
  • Lead the Security Department in a manner that will maximise synergies and enhance value delivery
  • Adapt, coordinate and test emergency plans and respond appropriately to crisis situations
  • Identify vulnerabilities within the mining environment that could be exploited internally and externally by those with criminal intent
  • Manage the integrated security program activities ensuring effective use of resources and seamless integration of the holistic security concepts and best practice standards with other disciplines at the operation (KPIs for security function as well as line function)
  • Build professional competence and capacity within the Security function through mentorship, coaching and development programmes to develop the next level of leaders
  • Develop people to ensure that a depth of skill and experience exists within the security discipline
  • Leverage internal and external networks to create strong partnerships/alliances and build collaborative relationships to enhance goal achievement
  • Promote the interests of Letšeng Diamond Mine and influence decision and policy-making groups through relationships and alliances with strategic partners including government and regulatory bodies, LEA’s, NGO’s and professional and industry bodies
  • Manage outsourced suppliers and external services providers by intelligently purchasing these services with direct bottom-line returns to the operation
  • Deliver high-quality training to the subordinate security team, the management peers and internal stakeholders to support high levels of performance, behaviours and understanding of key focus areas

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Successful completion of screening assessments as well as required integrity testing
  • Successful completion of selection assessments
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification at NQF level 6 (Degree or National Higher Diploma or equivalent) in Security Management or recognized equivalent
  • Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in the security discipline with particular experience in leading a security function or division within the function
  • Must have led teams of people and have had responsibility for their careers in an environment external to Letšeng Diamond Mine – advantageous
  • Must have been involved with investigation processes or post-incident reviews following a major incident and have been held accountable for the implementation of recommendations
  • Must have been accountable for a P & L (profits & losses) and conducted business planning process; Financial and business astuteness
  • Must have moved through a development pathway in any environment that shows a commitment to continuous self-improvement and ambition
  • Must have demonstrable crime information management and criminal investigations acumen
  • Must have a comprehensive understanding of the security function gained through formal education and complemented by practical experience
  • Must not have any criminal record and be registered with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority of the country of origin at a managerial level

  • Displays a thorough understanding of the corporate culture within the private sector. This includes all aspects of working within a fluid, dynamic environment and adapting to circumstances and conditions without compromising the quality of service deliverables
  • Displays a thorough understanding of relevant legislation and the implementation and execution thereof
  • Good communication and influencing skills to drive change at all levels within the operation

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge and application of industry legislation; compliance with local regulatory bodies in various countries of operation
  • Candidates will be required to undergo a Medical Examination of fitness as per the inherent requirements of the position
  • Legal appointment with regards to the Lesotho Precious Stone Act is compulsory
