On the 13th April 2020, and on the 5th May 2020, the Government of Lesotho took a policy decision to introduce a wage subsidy program to disburse M800.00 to individual industrial workers as an intervention to mitigate the economic impact of COVID-19 global pandemic.
The Government assigned the Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC) the responsibility to administer the disbursement of the industrial wage subsidies to the beneficiaries.
Effective from today Monday the 13 July 2020, the LNDC is pleased to announce processing of the second round of the wage subsidy to the beneficiaries. This second disbursement will cover seventy-eight (78)companies employing about fifty thousand (50,000) workers.
The manufacturing sector is a significant contributor to the Country’s economy in terms of private investment inflows, export/ forex earnings, taxes, and employment. The Government of Lesotho continues to pledge its full commitment to lessen to the extent possible, the economic impact of COVID – 19 pandemic to this sector.
The LNDC wishes to acknowledge and applaud the support rendered by our key stakeholders including the financial institutions, the employers and the unions in the facilitation of these payments to the beneficiaries.
