Tactical role in the digital technology organisation and is accountable for the management of change and releases to the service assets, configuration items and associated documentation. Change management uses requests for change (RFC) for standard or emergency changes, and changes due to incidents or problems to provide effective control and reduction of risk to the availability, performance, security and compliance of the business services impacted by the change. The role further is accountable for the management of the processes, systems and functions to package, build, test and deploy changes and updates (which are bounded as “releases”) into a live environment, establishing or continuing the specified service, to enable controlled and effective handover to operational management and the user community. The application of automation to improve the efficiency and quality of releases.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Sets the organisation’s policy for the management of change in live services and test environments.
- Ensures effective control and treatment of risk to the availability, performance, security and compliance of the business services impacted.
- Develops implementation plans for complex requests for change.
- Evaluates risks to the integrity of service environment inherent in proposed implementations (including availability, performance, security and compliance of the business services impacted).
- Seeks authority for those activities, reviews the effectiveness of change implementation, suggests improvement to organisational procedures governing change management.
- Leads the assessment, analysis, development, documentation and implementation of changes based on requests for change.
- Sets the release policy for the organisation in the context of both development and production/operations.
- Ensures that management processes, tools, techniques and resources (including automation) are in place to ensure that the transition of services, service components and packages are planned and compliant and that test and validation and configuration management are partnered in all release and deployment activities.
- Provides authorisation for critical release activity and point of escalation.
- Leads the assessment, analysis, planning and design of release packages, including assessment of risk. Liaises with business and IT partners on release scheduling and communication of progress.
- Conducts post release reviews. Ensures release processes and procedures are applied and that releases can be rolled back as needed. Identifies, evaluates and manages the adoption of appropriate release and deployment tools, techniques and processes (including automation).
- Matric / Grade 12
- B.Com / BSc Computer Science degree or equivalent work experience
- Current industry certification in architecture (i.e., TOGAF, Zachman, ITIL, COBIT, GxP, GAMP etc.)
- 5-10 years’ experience of managing relationships with internal business customers
- Experience and sound knowledge of service change and release management methodologies
- 5-10 years’ experience managing and planning global services and automation in a large complex/matrix global organisation
- 5-10 years’ experience leading service management teams, internal and 3rd parties in a multivendor approach
- 5-10 years’ experience designing and implementing Inventory and Asset Management technologies
