EBSCOhost Database Search Competition 2026

Scott College of Nursing Library invites all students to participate in the EBSCOhost Database Search Competition 2026 and showcase their research and information literacy skills.
The competition is designed to enhance students’ ability to search for scholarly nursing literature, evaluate information, and apply proper academic referencing.
Competition Task
Participants are required to:
- Access the EBSCOhost Database using their Scott College login credentials.
- Search for scholarly articles on any nursing-related topic of their choice.
- Write 3–5 well-developed paragraphs (approximately 300–500 words) summarising the information found.
- Include in-text citations throughout the submission.
- Provide a reference list containing at least five (5) scholarly sources retrieved only from the EBSCOhost Database.
- Use the Harvard Referencing Style for both in-text citations and the reference list. Participants are reminded to verify automatically generated citations before submission.
Competition Rules
- The competition is open to all Scott College of Nursing students.
- The topic must be related to nursing or healthcare.
- Only scholarly sources retrieved from the EBSCOhost Database may be used.
- A minimum of five (5) references is required.
- All work must be original.
- Plagiarism or the use of AI-generated submissions without proper acknowledgement will result in disqualification.
- Only one entry per student will be accepted.
- Late submissions will not be considered.
- All entries must be submitted through Turnitin before the official submission date.
- The Turnitin similarity report must not exceed 30%.

The top three (3) participants will receive prizes:
- 1st Prize
- 2nd Prize
- 3rd Prize

The Library will provide guidance on:
- Searching the EBSCOhost Database effectively.
- Finding peer-reviewed nursing articles.
- Using the Harvard Referencing Style.
- Using the EBSCOhost citation tool to generate references (participants should always verify citations before submission).
