Overview:

Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho. The Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho (BCMCFL), is the result of a public-private partnership between Baylor College of Medicine International Pediatric AIDS Initiative and the Government of Lesotho, and is a legal, non-profit/tax exempt organization registered in Lesotho. BCMCFL provides free paediatric and family-centered HIV and tuberculosis prevention, care, treatment and support, serving thousands of children and families affected by HIV, TB, or other child health conditions.

BCMCFL is looking for highly qualified candidates to fill in the following positions on a full-time, Fixed-Term Contract basis.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct clinical care services (diagnostic and therapeutic) to children, adolescents and families at the SCOE.
  • Participate in the stabilisation of pediatric patients in emergency situations and transfer of such patients to inpatient wards.
  • Identify clients with suspected or confirmed treatment failure and present to Treatment Failure Committee as needed.
  • Maintain proper record keeping of all activities at SCOE with regard to patient care, national statistics and research activities.
  • Participate in the training and mentoring of clinical staff and visiting scholars at the SCOE on pediatric HIV and TB prevention, diagnosis and management.
  • Consult on children presenting to the district hospital Children’s Medical Ward, MNCH Clinic or OPD as requested.
  • Perform training and mentorship of health professionals at hospitals and health centres on pediatric HIV and TB as requested or directed by the Deputy Medical Director.
  • Participate in psychosocial support activities including Teen Club and Wise Youth.  Keep updated on activities with COE-based colleagues.
  • Identify one activity or project for involvement as professional development.  Activities include but are not limited to research, committees, and educational development.  Discuss with Deputy Medical Director for advice or support.
  • Serve as local administrator and supervisor. 
    • Coordinate schedules for clinic care, outreach, training, and other activities of the SCOE and share with Deputy Medical Director.
    • Complete performance evaluations of staff and communicate with Deputy Medical Director and Senior HR and Administration Officer.
    • Provide timely reports to Senior HR and Administration Officer and Facilities Manager on issues concerning the building, equipment, supplies, etc

  • Perform other duties that are assigned by the administration.

Educational Qualifications, Work Experience and Key Competencies

  • Medical degree – MD, MBBS, MBChB
  • Minimum 3 years experience in HIV/AIDS and TB/HIV clinical care
  • Current valid registration with Lesotho Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Council as a General Practitioner
  • Knowledge and experience in paediatric HIV and TB/HIV clinical care is an added advantage
  • Knowledge and experience in quality improvement is an added advantage
