Scientist II ( HRL 16 )
Sappi Technology Centre requires a Scientist Level II to conduct research independently by executing product and process development projects making use of applicable research methodologies, data analysis and documenting outcomes in reports.
This role reports into the Lead Scientist.
The main responsibilities of this job are:
- Independent evaluation of enzymatic applications on laboratory, pilot and commercial scale according to quality and safety standards, published and approved methods.
- Data management, application and intermediate statistical evaluation
- Maintain and manage accurate records of research and project data
- Ensure compliance with equipment maintenance and consumable stock procedures in the laboratory
- Use project management tools to plan and independently execute small to medium projects.
- Delivers value through project implementation and resolving of customer complaints
- Produce written proposals, reports, project closing documentation, technical and safety procedures and deliver presentations.
- Support mill trials.
- Apply basic project financial calculations.
- Guide junior staff on research methodology, data interpretation and technical reporting.
- Understand regional strategy and contribute to departmental strategy.
The ideal candidate should have:
- Relevant 3 – year Degree / B-Tech (NQF 7) with 2 years relevant experience
Or
- Relevant 4 – year Degree or Post Graduate Diploma / NQF8 with 1 year relevant experience
