JOB TITLE: SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY TEACHER

Reporting To: The Principal, in coordination with the Deputy Principal (Head of Curriculum)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Science and IT Teacher delivers Science and Information Technology instruction and takes the lead on building the school’s science programmes from the ground up. This is an experimental, build-it-yourself mandate suited to a teacher with a rich, hands-on background in science and technology education who is excited to establish something new.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Teaching

  • Plan and deliver engaging Science and Information Technology lessons across the relevant grades.
  • Assess and report on learner progress in line with school and curriculum requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, well-organised laboratory/IT classroom environment.

2. Technology Programme Development

  • Design and build the school’s technology program, including equipment budget planning and curriculum content.
  • Run science and technology co-curricular offering, and represent the school at competitions/exhibitions as the program matures.

3. Curriculum and Collaboration

  • Work with the Deputy Principal (Head of Curriculum) on curriculum alignment.
  • Collaborate with other subject teachers on cross-curricular science and technology opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Recognised teaching qualification (Bachelor’s degree and/or PGCE/Diploma in Education, or equivalent) in Science, IT, or a related field.
  • Registered as a teacher with the Lesotho Ministry of Education and Training. SACE registration is an added advantage.
  • A demonstrated, informed background in science/technology – through teaching, industry, or personal project experience.
  • First Aid certification is an ideal, added-bonus qualification.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Genuine enthusiasm for STEM education.
  • Comfortable working with experiments and building a program without an existing template.
  • Strong classroom management and learner engagement skills.
  • Resourceful and budget-conscious when sourcing equipment.
  • First Aid or any other safety certification is an ideal bonus.
  • Excellent command and pronunciation of English, with proven English-medium teaching experience – all instruction and school activities, aside from language subjects, are conducted in English.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)

  • Learner engagement and results in Science and IT.
  • Successful integration of technology into the curriculum offering.
  • Percentage of students meeting or exceeding grade-level benchmarks on science units.
  • Pre- and post-test score improvements demonstrating actual learning gains per term.
  • Student progress in correctly using foundational primary science terms during oral or written tasks.
  • Regular updates or science fairs that connect classroom learning to the wider community.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Full-time, on-site teaching role.
  • May involve after-hours or weekend commitment for club/competition activities.
  • Salary is negotiable.
  • Valid police clearance and contactable references required.
