The Public & School Partnership (PSP) is an educational nonprofit organization based at Utah State University in Cache Valley, UT. PSP accomplishes its mission by building partnerships between schools, nonprofit organizations, and community members.

The Public & School Partnership seeks to appoint School Social Worker to be based in Cape Town, South Africa.

The School Social Worker is responsible for supporting the school-based programme through the promotion of social change, problem solving in human relationships and empowerment to enhance social well-being in the school context. This is a full time post based at a high school in Cape Town.

Reports to: Psychosocial Lead

Direct Reports: None

Minimum Requirements:
Relevant Bachelor level tertiary qualification (including Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Learning Support or Education) with applicable professional registration
Valid Code B driver’s license
Fluency in isiXhosa and English (Afrikaans would be an advantage)
Computer literacy, including competence in full Microsoft & Google suite
2 – 5 years relevant work experience as child-based remedial teacher, therapist, counsellor, educational psychologist or social worker – preferably at high school level
Key Performance Areas:
Collaboratively research and develop psychosocial model, methodology, tools and fit for purpose interventions to support the broader school community
Deliver psychosocial programmes to support the school based support team and school staff
Implement social work capacity building programmes for the early identification of and interventions relating to social, emotional and behavioural barriers to learning
Provide specialised support to strengthen school-based support teams (SBSTs)
Proactively undertake inter and intra sectoral networking and collaboration
Job related knowledge:
Thorough knowledge of applicable national and provincial legislation and regulations relating to psychosocial support work within the public school context
Analytic, diagnostic, assessment tools, evaluation methods and processes applicable to school-based psychosocial support
Counselling skills
Group facilitation
Interactive training skills
South African educational system and context and how to work within it
