ABOUT THE ROLE

The Room is searching for an experienced Director of Sales to lead our sales operation and go-to-market strategy. Your role will be integral to our global teamwork in supporting sales targets and the oversight of all sales metrics. We need a self-motivated professional with proven managerial experience and an outstanding track record in sales. In this position, you will be responsible for meeting our annual sales targets across Africa.

We are looking for someone with proven lead to close sales skills and a strong tendency for demand generation initiatives. You must have experience with the sales development rep role, inside and outside sales motions, as well as all new business and post-sale responsibilities. You should have strong knowledge of sales technologies including the CRM, and how they can enable performance and accountability.

Your duties will include motivating our sales team, designing strategic sales plans, sales process design, supporting sales enablement, reporting and forecasting performance, overseeing a budget, and assessing competition. In addition to being an excellent communicator, our ideal candidate will also demonstrate exceptional negotiation and leadership skills.

As the Sales Director, you will be responsible for:

  • Leadership: Collaborate with the Business Development Managers across Africa to support their assigned territory. Draft detailed and accurate performance sales reporting. Oversee the sales team with strong leadership and communication set to the goals and targets you control.
  • Build the team: Define key processes and systems, hire, grow and train the team. Establish key sales incentive schemes (e.g. sales quotas). Establish a sales training program to train new and existing employees.
  • Team Management: Develop and promote weekly, monthly, and quarterly sales objectives. Drive accountability for sales targets. Develop and implement cold outreach strategies. Maintain regular 1on1 check-ins with sales reps to assess their performance. Create, manage and own all sales compensation in conjunction with the CRO.
  • Analytics & Reporting: You must be able to oversee a budget, assess and differentiate against the competition, and support the optimization of pricing. Review performance sales numbers with the sales reps to ensure that targets are exceeded. Report all performance to the CRO and other management as requested.
  • Tech Stack: Based on your familiarity with current technologies you should evaluate and make recommendations on the CRM, sales engagement tools, call recording tools, and other technologies as you believe can add value.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders: Cultivate lasting relationships with customers to grow customer loyalty and manage the full end-to-end sales funnel. Create strategies to increase sales growth and profitability through the development of new accounts and the growth of existing customers. Make sure we are touching all of our customers and prospects on an ongoing and consistent basis. Work with customers to better understand their business needs and goals.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS: MUST HAVE

  • +8-10 years of experience in (for-profit) B2B sales leadership
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, or a relevant field
  • In-depth knowledge of sales and marketing techniques, and best practices
  • Proven experience in achieving and exceeding sales targets
  • Capacity to manage various projects and work to tight deadlines
  • Excellent negotiation and leadership skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Built teams from the ground up or has demonstrated ability to work under uncertainty and bring structure to chaos
  • Proactivity, resourcefulness, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, flexible, and entrepreneurial environment. Ability to work independently

ROLE REQUIREMENTS: SHOULD HAVE

  • Extensive network in our customer base
  • Experience in the recruitment, staffing, or talent placement industries
  • Strong analytical sense. Ability to build and generate reports from marketing automation platforms and distill insights to drive strategy. We make data-driven decisions and expect a high degree of comfort with numbers
  • Proof of a strong working relationship with Sales/Revenue Operations
  • Experience working in tech and versed in industry languages
  • Demonstrated ability to learn from experimentation and testing
  • Leadership experience and/or experience building and growing a team
  • Working knowledge and experience with Keap (CRM), Figma, and other tech tools

ROLE REQUIREMENTS: NICE TO HAVE

  • Advanced degree in marketing, business administration, or a relevant field
  • Experience managing large teams including managing managers
  • Experience and/or passion for new technologies and for closing the digital skills gap in the continent (and creating work opportunities for African youth in doing so!)
