JOB TITLE: Sales Assistant

GRADE: D

RESPONSIBLE TO: ASSISTANT SALES OFFICER

DEPARTMENT: BROADCASTING- SALES OR COMMERCIAL

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Assistant Sales officer, the incumbent locates products for customers, places orders, processes transactions and keeps the sales floor organized and well-stocked.

MAIN DUTIES

  1. Organizes sales presentations and ensure that all sales presentation materials are prepared prior to deadlines.
  2. Updates customer records in the company database as required.
  3. Analyzes, consolidates, and forward daily action summaries to supervisors.
  4. Uses data to investigate the logistical history to resolve order and inventory problems.
  5. Conducts research on promotion details, regular, and special prices to resolve pricing discrepancies.
  6. Offers product, promotion, and pricing information by exploring customer requests.
  7. Maintains customer database by inputting customer profiles and updates.
  8. Collects data to create informative sales presentations.

REPRESENTATIONAL DUTIES

  1. Maintains contacts with customers locally and internationally.
  2. Liaises with other allied organizations on operational matters.
  3. Attends meetings, seminars, workshops and conferences on matters relating to programming.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Familiarity with media planning and buying.

JOB SPECIFICATION

• Diploma in sales and marketing or professional communications or entrepreneurship or business management.

• Two years of relevant work experience with marketing agencies/Radio and TV stations will be an added advantage.

The job requires the incumbent to maintain smooth working relations with Assistant sales officer, customers, and stakeholders in content provision.

For Property (Equipment, Materials and Finance)

The job places on the incumbent responsibility to ensure security and safety of the studio equipment, computers, and recorded material in his or her custody.

For Effect of Errors

The incumbent is responsible for the errors committed by junior staff in the execution of their duties such as failure to observe safety and operational procedures, which could result in loss of property, equipment, data and software or failure to render the service.

For the Safety of Others

The job places on the incumbent responsibility to enforce and ensure that proper safety and operational procedures are followed to ensure the safety of personnel working under him/her.

COMPLEXITY

The incumbent has the authority to use their own creativity to enhance revenue generation.

The incumbent regularly solves problems that are directly related to revenue generation

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The incumbent is expected to work independently under supervision by the Assistant Sales Officer.

The job requires listening skills and mental capability to execute advertising and sales. It also requires the artistic resourcefulness of the individual.

CONTACTS

The job requires the incumbent to make contacts with:

  • Assistant Sales Officer, during production meetings and when seeking advice, guidance, and authority.
    • News personnel, programme personnel and engineering daily in the execution of duties.
    • Other departments and sections for coordination of Ministry of Communications activities.
    • Other utility organizations to discuss issues of mutual interest.
    • At times with the public to explain and disseminate information regarding issues relevant to his/her department.
