Safety and Health Officer – Mining Operations (x3)

We are seeking a highly competent and proactive Safety and Health Officers to oversee occupational health, safety and compliance standards across our mining operations, including but not limited to, Load and Haul activities, Drilling and Blasting operations.

This role is critical in ensuring full compliance with mining safety regulations, minimizing operational risks, and promoting a strong safety culture across all departments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify non-conformity
  • Implement, monitor and enforce site specific Health and Safety Management Systems
  • Support the development of OHS policies and programs through reviewing existing policies and measures and updating according to legislation
  • Ensure compliance with relevant mining legislation and statutory health and safety requirements
  • Conduct risk assessments and enforce compliance of preventative measures established
  • Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics
  • Facilitate and organize occupational health and safety (OHS) training of employees
  • Record and investigate incidents
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections to identify issues of non-conformity
  • Provide safety trainings and inductions for employees and sub-contractors
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities and maintain statutory documentation
  • Provide statistical information: Track safety performance metrics and prepare detailed reports to management and client

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Mining Engineering or related field
  • 3–5 years’ experience in mining safety management
  • Registration with the department of Labour as a Health and Safety practitioner
  • Experience in open-pit mining operations preferred
  • Proven exposure to heavy equipment maintenance safety practices
  • Strong knowledge of mining regulations, occupational health and safety laws and international safety standards
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills

  • Knowledge and application of Mining principles and legislation relating to Health and Safety
  • Experience in writing reports
  • Conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Risk assessment and hazard identification expertise
  • Incident investigation proficiency
  • High-level of integrity and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in remote mining environments
