Saturday 20th June, 2020 marked a historic event as the Rotary Club of Maloti inducted a female president in two consecutive Rotary years and also inducted a very first Mosotho female Ms Maud Boikanyo as District Governor.

In her acceptance speech, President Yande Sikazwe-Mothae said she is honoured to be elected President of the Rotary Club of Maloti 2020/2021.

When taking us back to why she joined Rotary, she said “one would ask the question why did I join Rotary? There were three elements that stood out for me: the element of friendship, the second was personal development and the third being able to make a difference”.

She mentioned that in Rotary, 1.2 million like minded people (Rotarians) are working together to eradicate polio and also there are many other projects Rotarians embark on worldwide, all of this were going to be impossible if done alone, hence why she joined, to lend a helping hand. Today, she said she is a proud Rotarian.

President Yande mentioned that President of Rotary international Holger Knaack for 2020/2021 Rotary year, selected the theme “Rotary opens opportunities”.

She said in doing so, she is sure he had in mind the shared commitment of every Rotarian to provide “service above self”, which is what makes rotary magical. President Yande also promised to keep the fun and fellowship in her meetings, club projects and fellowship events to ensure that strategic objectives are met.

To summarise, she said her primary focus for the year will include:

  • Membership Development and Retention
  • Public image
  • Projects
  • The Rotary Foundation
  • The family of Rotary
  • Club Training and Leadership
  • Health and Education
