The Equality Collective, based in rural Eastern Cape, is a social justice advocacy and community-centred law project. Founded in 2020, the Equality Collective’s vision is to see thriving communities collectively participating in a just and caring society. We are innovative in the advancement of access to justice, build the capacity and infrastructure for collective participation and share research and learnings to create a more just and caring society.

We are a ‘start-up’ NGO and are looking for a right to water coordinator who will manage, implement, and oversee the setting up of a community-based ICT monitoring system for the Mncwasa Water Scheme across approximately 40 villages.  This will also involve activating, facilitating and managing engagement and the participation of local government, the traditional leaders, councillors, and community members. This person will also build the capacity of community members to participate in existing democratic processes and become leaders and activists for the right to water.

This person will be required to live and be based in Bulungula/Nqileni Village in the Eastern Cape which is a remote rural area (area is unelectrified and has communal taps).

Responsibilities
Coordinate, implement and oversee the implementation of a community-monitoring ICT system for the Mncwasa Water Scheme.
Oversee and keep motivated a team of community water ambassadors (volunteers).
Manage, analyse, and report on data collected by the community water ambassadors.
Communicate data to responsible stakeholders (ADM).
Tracking of project implementation, including weekly and monthly reports.
Cultivate partnerships.
Stakeholder management and engagement.
Organise and facilitate training of community members to participate in local government planning processes.
Conduct local government related research.
Requirements:
A relevant degree/diploma in development studies, urban studies, town planning or engineering.
At least 2 years working experience.
Experience in data collection, analysis and data management and GIS experience.
Water project experience is preferable.
Local government experience is preferable.
Experience in community training and facilitation.
Effective oral and written communication skills in isiXhosa and English.
Have a strong work ethic that requires minimal direction. Works well under pressure.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
Passionate about our work and willing to help grow and build a social justice organisation in a remote rural area.
