For Production, packaging, and delivery of WHITE FORTIFIED MAIZE MEAL
Contracting Entity: Catholic Relief Services Lesotho
Cathedral Building, Main North One, P.O Box 11471, Maseru 100, Lesotho

General Information
Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is a humanitarian and development organization that works in over 100 countries with local partners to help people improve their lives. CRS provides assistance to millions of beneficiaries worldwide each year in various sectors, including agriculture, education, emergency response, health, justice and peacebuilding, microfinance, and water and sanitation.

CRS Lesotho is collaborating with the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), to implement US$28.5 Million Bokamoso Ba Bana (3B) Project – a school feeding program with funding from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)/ Foreign Agricultural Services (FAS). The project is being implemented in Thaba-Tseka, Mokhotlong and Semongkong districts of Lesotho from October 2022 to September 2027.
3B Project intends to improve literacy by reducing short-term hunger, improve attentiveness and classroom attendance among project participants by providing school meals. 3B Project is targeting 36,557 school aged children in 228 schools over a 5-year period. In addition, the project is training teachers in foundational literacy methodologies and produced training materials for school administrators and teachers, to build capacity.

To supplement efforts to reduce short-term hunger, the project aims to improve the management of school feeding programs by supporting the formation of school feeding committees and advisory boards. School feeding committees will pro-actively encourage the holistic wellbeing of school children and their guardians, in collaboration with Ministries of Health and Gender, Youth and Social Development, by introducing WASH in schools, menstrual hygiene promotion, construction latrines and safe water facilities, food storage rooms, and kitchens.

The project plans to strengthen school feeding activities by procuring commodities (eggs, sugar beans, dark leafy green vegetables, sugar and fortified maize-meal) over its lifecycle, from farmers and suppliers in Lesotho and regionally. A total of 3,050 MTs of commodities will be procured locally and regionally, to complement 6, 950 MTs of US-donated commodities that will be delivered to schools.

CRS Lesotho invites locally registered Millers to submit bids for a contract to produce, package, and transport 280 metric tons of White Fortified Maize Meal to Food Management Unit (FMU) locations in Maseru, Semonkong, Mokhotlong and Thaba Tseka.
