The Independent Electoral Commission is committed to ensuring Free, Fair, and Accessible National Assembly Elections. To meet this commitment it invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the positions of Returning Officers (RO) in terms of section 151 (2) (a) of the National Assembly Act, 2011.
The Applicants should:
- Be registered with the IEC as an elector.
Duties:-
Reports to the Area Electoral Officer and is advised by the Constituency Electoral Assistant on administrative matters.
The RO is legally responsible for running of an election in his/her constituency from nomination of candidates throughout the election period.
Responsible for:
- Issuing of nomination forms to prospective candidates
- Receiving, scrutinising and processing nomination forms
- Announcing of nominated candidates for constituency
On Voting Day
- Handles complaints about the conduct of the electors during election,
- Assists the media with factual information about the voting process,
- Records and announces election results for the constituency and submits details to the Area Electoral Officer.
- Verifies the ballot paper count.
- Submits a written report on the conduct of the election to the Area Electoral Officer.
- Supervisors voting officials.
Job Specification:
Minimum qualification should beDegree in one of the following disciplines: Public Administration, Management, Adult Education, and Development Studies.
Minimum age for applicants – 21 years
Applications must include two (2) written references.
Application forms can be obtained from all constituency and district offices and should be returned to constituency offices.
The closing date is on the 15th July 2022. The names of shortlisted applicants will be available at the constituency offices from 20th July 2022. Interviews will be conducted from 24th – 25th July 2022 at District Offices.
